Bid For Power
Overview
Bid For Power ( BFP ) was
based on the popular anime Dragonball Z which includes martial art style
melee and powerful KI based attacks such as firing huge balls of energy
from your hands. Unfortunately the BFP team were sent a cease and desist
order from the makers of Dragonball Z, Funimation. This was a huge blow
back for the team but that didn't stop them. The team re-created Bid For
Power and made it so it doesn't break any of funimation's copyrights. In
BFP 6 skilled fighters enter an arena to fight for domination in several
different modes of play.
Play test
Bid for power is
completely customized down to the menu options. Everything that you can
imagine to be customized, has been. The First thing you are most likely to
do is to go to setup your character. you will notice BFP has its own
option list for things like, view mode which can be First person, 3rd
person and 1st person vis mode which allows you to see your arms and most
of the attacks you do from a 1st person perspective. here are also other
options but most of them are pretty self explanatory especially when you
start to play BFP for a bit.
Attacks do not use
ammunition but instead drain your power or 'KI'. You start off with only
one KI attack out of a possible 5 per character. you also start with a
certain power level which is about 75'000 and as you kill your power level
goes up and so does your health and KI level. each time your power level
gets to a certain point called a 'tier', You will gain a new attack. when
your power level reaches 1 million your character may have a
transformation which will occur when you reach this point. You will also
gain a very strong attack.
There are other things you
can do with KI as well as using attacks. Flying is the most important
aspect of the game which slowly drains KI but very useful. You can also
use 'Burn' your KI and use the power you Release to greatly increase your
speed. Another good feature is the ability to teleport over short
distances so you can avoid last minute attacks. Of course all this KI
being used but no way to get it back? Yes there is, You can charge KI
which stops movement and creates an aura around your character so you are
very visible but you KI will recharge.
The maps in BFP are very well
designed and have alot of detail to give you that anime feel. These also
range in size from little old earth wastelands to massive Earthen City.
The maps are all designed in mind of the flight engine and all are very
high to allow good flight without many restrictions.
There are 6 different Characters
to choose from and not all are humans. Each character has his or her own
set of attacks though all of them share the infamous KI blast attack. Its
wise to familiarize yourself with each character before choosing the one
you want as each have their own advantages and disadvantages. The
characters are also very well designed with anime most definitely the
theme and the detail animations for the characters are also very good.
Unfortunately there is no
real in game music but there are plenty of sound effects and each character
has their own voices which are very well done. The attacks also have
custom sound effects , other that one or two.
There are several game
modes in BFP, Free for all being the most used but is does have Capture
the flag and survival modes too.
BFP has many more features
that could be added on an already very successful MOD. It is most definitely
better against human opponents as Bots can become boring after a while and
you don't get those stand off's we all love to watch as the bots just hare
at you and you have no time to stand there looking at them.
We hope to see more of the
good work from the BFP team in the near future, perhaps class based play
and even more characters and maps!
